Chatham Welcomes

New DEIA Administrator, Freya Huffman

DEIA initiatives are vital to the growth and success of Chatham County and the residents it serves. Embracing DEIA not only strengthens the county but empowers its residents, ensuring that all individuals have an equal opportunity to contribute and to thrive in the collective progress of Chatham County.

On October 20, 2023, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners welcomed the county's first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Administrator, Freya Huffman.

Huffman attended Claflin University on a basketball scholarship while majoring in mathematics and computer science. During her ten-year professional career as a computer programmer, she says, "I really fell in love with the training side." She expanded her expertise into the human resources and payroll industries, through which she became a leader in the private sector focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion.

“The strengths that I see thus far is really the desire for this role to be here, the desire to see people collaborate. That is a strength. And as I often say, with Chatham County, it is set up for people from around the world to come and visit and feel comfortable. I love collaboration, I like working with others. I like understanding how I can use my diverse background to provide support, to provide training, to understand and to facilitate conversation.”

By fostering diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in the workforce, in service delivery, and in community engagement, Chatham County is poised to create a more equitable and resilient community, and we’re happy to have Georgia native Freya Huffman with us on this journey.
